Crimes Against Design, if not humanity....

New from Forge World, it's THE UGLIEST FUCKING AIRCRAFT I HAVE EVER SEEN.

If your eyes had balls, this would be a direct punch to them, followed by a series of kicks delivered rapid fire, plus a stomp or two. The thing is fucking awful. Oh, and the fluff? It's meant to RAM INTO THINGS. FROM THE FUCKING SKY.  I mean, really? Who told them this was a good idea?

Want more? Click here for the page and here for the rules. It costs nearly as much as a Land Raider and isn't even as remotely as useful.

The retro Iron Armor and weapons packs? Nice. Criminally overpriced, but nice.

Image used without permission, and quite frankly, they can have it back.

it sort of hangs in the air the way a brick doesn't

So this thing drops out of the sky and rams stuff, and Land Raiders are flung out of orbital transports (at least, by the Blood Angels)...

What has the Mechanicus done to offend these people?

Sigh... My thoughts exactly. I particularly loved your closing comment about image ownership :P

Looking for Land Raider and Thunderhawk design, it's not so different, and being a landing barge it has to be blocky. The fluff is not so brilliant and the price is hefty, but I could like it if found on eBay for half price...

Definitely agree. Some folks like it though, and they're welcome to it. I think it's mostly designed for space anyways, so lack of aerodynamics shouldn't matter much.

MkIII - yes. This - no.

I actually like it. But maybe that's only because it reminds me of the Pegasus:

And yes, all of our discussions will somehow lead back to the Gundam universes...

Ok, I have to admit that the concept is interesting. I mean, it does kinda fill a gap in the SM TO&E.

Would I field it?

Don't think so. The only real perk is that if the enemy doesn't shoot it down on turn one, it's in their face on turn two. If it could disembark & assault after moving flat-out, I'd think about it.

However, it's really only good for delivering the goods, then farting out melta templates. For that cost? I dunno.

The model is so-so; I could've used a little bit less BRICK in the design. Maybe it's me. I dunno. I thikn I'd rather just fire a freaking boarding torpedo and get it over with, or field a Land Raider.

Aerodynamics aside, if you're going to bore your way into a hull, you'd want a prow that came into a point anyway. A blunt prow like that is better for pushing things like a tugboat. Oh, and those weensy little sensors at the front? They'll be crushed when you ram into a big, hard object, and so will that rather slender-looking cannon mounted in between the booms.

As an airborne assault vehicle, it only has two weapons, and one of those is a one shot. If, say, a flight of Necron Destroyers fired at the thing, it would be that much easier to glance to death. Honestly, you'd better off in a Stormraven or Valk.

Hilariously, there are tons of people complaining about how overpowered it is. "OMG MELTA BLAST WEAPON AV13 FAST SKIMMER OMG OMG OMG FORGE WORLD _SO BROKEN_ I'LL NEVER PLAY AGAINST ANYONE WITH MARINES AGAIN WTF BETTER THAN ELDAR EVERY WAY."

As for the Rules, I still haven't read them, I don't care for IA rules. Codex or nothing for me, really.

I'm perfectly happy to design my own, if it came to it - but not theirs. lol

I think the Iron Armour and retro weapons look fantastic, and will inevitably buy more than I can reasonably afford. Sigh. :(

LOL... I spit up my coffee reading this entry... nicely put.

Well, isnt this ment to be 1 of the craft for ship to ship boarding? I mean, look at the BFG boarding ships, they look very similar to this.
A pointed prow would colapse under impact moreso that a blunt... look at sledge hammers, huge lumpy heads... or a better example would be an axe compaired to a block spliter, the block splitter is a sledge hammer with a slight edge.

@mephisto- You can play devil's advocate all you want, it's still ugly as fuck. For that matter, the BFG designs are from some of the same designers, and they're ugly as fuck, too. Sorry man.

Also, using your same example, you don't cut down a tree with hammer, you do it with an axe. It's the same reason needles and nails have points: applying force along a small area.

This is one of the best posts I've read all month. Must. Stop. Laughing.

Hi there, mate, loving your blog.

thought i would post here as i quite disagree with the hatred of this vehicle, it looks awesome, just like a heavily armoured space ship would.

the twin booms aren't supposed to "Ram into things" it manouvers next to the ship and fires up the plasma cutters (or whatever they're called) opening small holes for the marines to board through. this is why there are 2 boarding ramps, not 1 large one, quicker to blast 2 small holes than to cut one large hole for a larger boarding ramp.

I'm a massive fan of forgeworld stuff, screw whether it has a place in a chesshammer 40k game, it has a place in the 40k universe, much like all the recovery tanks etc that they supply, no gaming value, but infinite scenario value.

@TSINI: Following your logic then, there should a either A) a ring of "plasma cutters" or similarly B) a set of melta/plasma whatevers on some kind of articulated gimbal arrangement, so they could cut into the side of a starship and then assault in.

But, your logic, sadly is not FW's logic, which states that it just rams in there like an impatient warthog trying to get at a truffle, and without the benefit of a pointed prow to concentrate the force. FW logic is fail.

That said, I still think it's ugly as fuck, and not even a cool sort of ugly like a warthog (animal or A-10) ;)

I do like that FW is finally giving armies other than the IG and Orks some love, but they need to try harder. What's next, the Vogon Planetary Bulldozer?

I love it. It's so ugly it's pretty.

As I'm not an artist but an engineer, my perception is not befuddled by some "artsy" whimsy :P
