Making Megatron Proud....

As someone set the East Coast Weather Dominator to "Hoth" today, I thought I'd a do a bits box delve and work on my proof-of-concept model for the Tyracron army: the Tyracron Warrior. Seen here with his trusty Gauss Spitter, this thing took a little time to actualize, but it paid off.
I started with the obvious, first: I cut away the tail from the crotch piece (the Necrons don't have tails) and then glued on the 'Cron warrior gun arms and Nid talons. The legs were a pain in the ass, b/c the Nid legs are too... buggy. I needed more "athletic robot" looking ones, and cut a pair of Tau battlesuit legs to fit the bill. The head was another story. A Necron head is too small, and the Nid torso, as you Nid modelers know, has that horn nub in front in lieu of a neck. A Necron head there or in the vast pit immediately behind it looked silly. Likewise, shearing away the little head of a scarab to use him to bulk out the Necron head looked equally dumb (remember Londo from Babylon 5?). Then I had that familiar impulse, and set to work. I sheared away the top of the Necron head, bored out the Scarab's head, and attacked both to the newly spare tail I had lying around. Voila! A serpentine biomechanoid-looking head.
There are some issues with the Tau feet; I need to stick 'em on there at another angle and make sure it has the structural integrity to keep him up. I thought about giving him some kind of power spines or something like the Doom, but decided that sort of thing was for the bigger Tyracrons.

Man, I've always wanted to do two armies at once... and now you are! Way to go sir- looks good!

Now I just need to get up the gumption (and financial resources) to do my own...

It looks much better than it sounds! Great conversion work there, I would not have guessed that such a beast could be made to look so... right?

Love it. Great idea and even better execution. I'd love to see maybe a Wraith/Zoanthrope hybrid too. Out of curiosity, if you were to (or already are planning to) play this as a competitive army, would it be Necron or Tyranid?

Tyranids. I was flipping through the new codex in a store, reading all the crazy rules for their weird creatures, and it started a brainstorm;. Once I got into sketching out new possibilities for the Necron-influenced monstrous creatures, I knew I had to start cranking them out. The real hurdle will be in figuring out how many of which monstrous creature I want to make so I can field a good variety of forces. From there it'll be downhill, with many Necrons pulling double-duty as Tyracrons.

The new codex is definitely tempting. I've never been one for the visual look of Tyranids, too many of them and they all look the same. Of course, this is silly coming from a Necron player, if only they gave Necrons drop pods next...

They do all look the same, don't they? Like giant mutant Genestealers. Of course, my remedy for this was the Necron army. :)

Technically the Monolith is sort of an enormous, expensive drop pod, but yeah, they really need some other way to tool around the battlefield. I toyed around with making a weird ribcage-and-spine Necron transporter, but never would've gotten to actually use it in-game. Now with Mycetic Spores in the 'Nid book... smaller pyramids? Sarcophogi? The possibilities about. When the snow melts I'm going to have a look around the craft and hobby stores for ideas.
